The basketball camp within The Sports Academy at Brookwood Camps’ offers focused training in its traditional sleepaway camp setting. Brookwood Camps gives boys and girls an opportunity to improve their game with multi-level professional instruction to get to the next level on the court. Brookwood Camps’ air-conditioned basketball facilities are designed to replicate a professional arena.
Young athletes at this New York sports overnight camp are instructed by former Division One coach Tim Capstraw, who heads up the youth basketball camp. Now the New York Nets’ radio color analyst, Capstraw is a familiar face to summer camp kids at Brookwood Camps. Youth basketball players at Brookwood Camps improve their fundamentals and have fun with “Coach Campstraw’s” shooting, dribbling and passing drills and game match-ups.
Prior to becoming a sportscaster, Capstraw was the youngest Head Basketball Coach at Wagner College, where he had also played for Division One Seahawks. At Wagner, Capstraw won numerous coaching awards including Northeast Conference “Coach of the Year,” and as a journalist won the 2000 Metropolitan Basketball Writers “Good Guy Award.”
Capstraw’s broadcasting career began with a three year stint as a television and radio analyst for the Northeast Conference. He joined the Nets Radio broadcasts in the 2002-03 NBC Season and has also filled in on Nets telecasts. In addition to his work on Nets broadcasts, Capstraw serves as NBA TV’s lead analyst for their Euroleague and several other international championships. The Sports Academy at Brookwood Camps draws young athletes from several countries outside the U.S. each summer.
