The concept of The Sports Academy at Brookwood Camps allows campers the flexibility to decide with which activities they want to spend more of their time. While we encourage all of our campers to try all of the activities we offer, we understand that many want to focus on enhancing their skills and having fun in specific activities. Our unique programming at our New York sleepaway camps provides campers with a mix of individual selective and scheduled group activities giving each child a well-rounded experience tailored to their interests.
While the Sports Academy at Brookwood Camps offers special programs in various sports and activities, we maintain a strong belief in developing well-rounded campers. As such, our arts programs offer our campers the ability to use their creativity in building small projects and works of art. Our Arts and Crafts Center is where projects such as woodworking, pottery, candle making, and more take place. The Fine Arts building is home to painting, drawing, and collage projects for our campers. Those interested in the Culinary Arts can work with our instructors in the Junior Chefs Program equipped with its own dedicated kitchen and prep area.
The Sports Academy at Brookwood Camps features an abundance of water activity facilities for our campers to cool off after a hot day on the fields and courts. Separate waterfronts for boys and girls on beautiful spring-fed Lake Lochada each are equipped with swimming areas, floating docks, water park apparatuses, and boating equipment. At the center of campus lies our impressive aquatics center which features a 5,000 square foot swimming pool and two 80 foot water slides. The pool is equipped with a shallow wading area, racing lanes, water polo, and water basketball facilities. It also has underwater and area lighting to accommodate nighttime swims and pool parties. In addition, we also have a wonderful waterskiing program with equipment available to perform skiing, wakeboarding, knee boarding, tubing, and more.
Throughout the course of the summer, we mix in traditional camp activities which foster social integration, competition, teamwork and the development of new skills. Color War is a highlight of the summer pitting Blue vs Gold in a multi-day full-camp competition featuring events such as Apache Relay, Bucket Brigade, Rope Burning, and Sing. Our College Weekend is an abbreviated version of Color War taking place in mid-summer. Campfires, intercamp games, and tournaments, camp leagues, Carnival, movies in the park, Survivor events, Capture the Flag, Sings, and many more of the favorite activities we all love are part of the summer camp experience at The Sports Academy at Brookwood Camps.
