Baseball with Leo Mazzone

July 27-August 2

Leo Mazzone spent over 40 years in professional baseball and is widely considered to be the best pitching coach in Major League Baseball over the past half-century. During his time with the Atlanta Braves, his pitching staff was one of the best rotations to ever play the game. His staff collectively won 6 Cy Young Awards and led the team to 14 straight postseason appearances. The two pitchers inducted into Baseball’s Hall of Fame in 2014 (Greg Maddux and Tom Glavine) spent the majority of their careers under Mazzone’s tutelage. Remarkably, Mazzone’s pitchers sustained very few injuries as a result of his teaching and training methods. Campers at The Sports Academy at Brookwood Camps now have the rare opportunity to learn from one of baseball’s true coaching legends.

Basketball with Charles Oakley

July 20-26

Former New York Knicks All-Star Forward Charles Oakley joins the Sports Academy at Brookwood Camps roster of professional instructors in 2019.  Known as one of the best rebounders in the game, Oakley was also known as a team leader in every locker room in which he played. After a 19-year NBA playing career, Oakley stayed connected to the game with a stint as an assistant coach for the Charlotte Bobcats.  He currently coaches in the BIG3 professional 3-on-3 basketball league. We are excited to welcome Oakley as our newest Brookwood pro instructor.

In addition to Oakley, our basketball academy features instruction from Camp Director Scott Fiedler, basketball director Chris Cummings, and guest pros such as Tim Capstraw and Mark Coffman.

Prior to becoming a Brookwood Owner/Director, Scott Fiedler spent decades playing and coaching the game of basketball.  He was one of the youngest coaches to become head coach of a college program and spent many years as an assistant at the Division 1 level of NCAA basketball.

Chris Cummings spent 20 years as a professional player in Germany prior to a stellar coaching career in the German pro leagues.

Tim Capstraw is a former NCAA Division 1 Head Coach and currently works as radio broadcast analyst for the Brooklyn Nets.

Mark Coffman spent over 25 years coaching at the Division 1 level and currently runs a youth basketball academy in the Southern California area.

Dance with Ms Erica

Our 3,300 square foot dance center is home to a new dance program for 2015 led by instructor Erica Ratkovicz. A former professional dance member of the Rochester City Ballet who also performed with the Joffrey Ensemble, the Boston Ballet and the Pittsburgh Ballet, Ms. Erica currently instructs young girls in various dance forms as an instructor at the Broadway Bound Dance Center in New Jersey. Her pupils compete in top competitions around the East Coast. She is excited to bring her instruction and choreography skills to The Sports Academy at Brookwood Camps this summer.

Football with Jay and Teammates

Skills week July 6-12 and Flag week July 13-19

Director Jay Fiedler was a quarterback in the NFL for 10 years and has been teaching the game to all ages and skill levels for over 15 years. He brings his wealth of knowledge along with a passion for working with youths to the football program at The Sports Academy at Brookwood Camps. Some of Jay’s colleagues and friends from professional football, such as Scott Brunner (NY Giants QB), Chris Chambers (All-Pro WR) and many others appear at Brookwood each summer to teach our campers the fundamentals of the game. Jay also runs year-round clinics and camps while Brookwood is not in session through his Prime Time Sports Camps.

Campers interested in improving their golf game will have the opportunity to work with our coaching staff and practice their game anytime at our on-campus driving range. We also take our campers on trips to top courses in the surrounding area so they could apply the skills they learn onto the course.

Pam Fiedler oversees a lacrosse program which brings in some of the best coaches and players to instruct our campers. Pam is a former All-Conference player for Old Dominion University, a top Division 1 NCAA program and has coached high school and elite travel teams for over a dozen years. Her expertise and connections to top coaches around the nation give our boy and girl campers the very best training available at our sport summer camps. Our facilities and field space allow are to dedicate a full-size lacrosse field to play at any time of day without schedule conflicts with other sports.

Soccer with Manchester United Coaches

July 6-12, July 13-19, and July 20-26

The Soccer program at the Sports Academy at Brookwood Camps is run by two of the best youth trainers from both sides of the Atlantic. Gary Lewis started training in the Manchester United youth development program at age 8 and continued training with the legendary club for the next 9 years. He played professionally in Europe for 4 years before an injury ended his playing career early. Gary has spent over a decade developing talent and identifying players around the world for a few English Premier League teams. He comes from England each summer to work with The Sports Academy at Brookwood Camps to teach and develop the skills of our campers.
